Does anyone know how many watts is MCA radio able to provide without additional amplifier?
I have premium loudspeakers (25W) and want to know if the amplifier is really needed to achieve full potential of them or it is only for the subwoofer.
MCA sound power output
Re: MCA sound power output
Hi syntax,
all Mondeo satnavs (FX, NX, MCA) uses the same amplifier chip TDA7564B. This chip is capable of 4 channels, providing a peak-power of 28 Watts per channel, using the 4 Ohm speakers of Mondeo. The premium speakers have the same power but use better materials.
You can find the datasheet here https://mk4-wiki.denkdose.de/_media/art ... a7564b.pdf

Re: MCA sound power output
Thanks for your answer, I already have premium speakers preinstalled from factory but no amplifier, only MCA.
I have also installed non-factory subwoofer to the trunk and now I am wondering if there would be any gain in sound if I also install factory amplifier for the speakers.

Re: MCA sound power output
The interesting thing in the datasheet you have posted is that it can also handle 4x72 W/2 ohm
Re: MCA sound power output
I have measured the impedance on the tweeter and my multimeter says 3.5 Ohms so I am going to assume that it is 4 Ohms.
According to MK4 wiring diagram, speakers and tweeters are connected in parallel so if both have 4 Ohms that means it is running on 2 Ohms but that does not make sense as it would blow the current speakers

Re: MCA sound power output
You are missing the fact that Tweeters have a Capacitor in series with their coil.
Re: MCA sound power output
I told you that ALL speakers in Mondeo are 4 Ohms
Besides, you can't look at speakers as for resistors. They do have a coil, and those react different than pure resistors.
Also als DGAlexandru said, the tweeters have a cap in series, which together with the impedance of the speakers coil build a very basic high-pass filter of 1. order. Tweetes do not need any noticeable power, so they can be left put in calculation.
The premium amp has all speakers connected seperately (besides the rear door ones), not because of power but because of DSP sound image.

Re: MCA sound power output
I see, so there should not be any problem keeping the tweeters as is and only fit 2 Ohm speakers with more power, right?
