Re-program Focus/Mondeo PDC-Module for Kuga

Post by Go4IT »

Hey, i wonder if it's possible to flash a Mondeo PDC module like this

with the firmware of a Kuga version like this

HW04 vs HW03... I don't think they share the same PCB layout / or maybe even the microcontroller is different

Currently i do not have a full PCB image, but i'm not convinced that they would likely differ, as the PDC-System is the same since the early MK3 Focus and built exactly the same way into other brands (VW for example). For that to answer, somebody needs to know what "HW0x" REALLY means.
Let's see...

I've compared them and they are pretty much the same. Now, i try to get what firmware on it.

AA might be without needed parts for front parking sensors.
Put front/back pictures for both of them.

The main question remains, how to program the module with the Kuga firmware?
I guess i can't use the update wizard, since it won't find the PAM in my lab-CAN-network. For this i connected the UCDS CAN-Busses to a 3 lane board having each CAN separated an lead to connectors. There i put the CAN-Bus of the PAM into MS-CAN lane. Also give 12V power to the PAM. With another USB/CAN-Module i simulate IGNITION CAN-Messages on this bus. In "Mondeo MK4" Scan-Mode, the UCDS finds the module, but if i switch to Kuga MK1 (Focus MK2) mode, it doesn't.
So i guess the Kuga/Focus uses different CAN-IDs to communicate with the module. Usually this should not make any difference, depending on how the UCDS software discovers the modules on the bus. In OBD2 there is a way to discover by sending special broadcast messages where all modules reply on.
But maybe UCDS is only using fixed OBD or CAN-IDs to lookup the modules?

Compare the SBL files and see if they both get loaded at the same address.
Then compare the "exe" and "calibration" files and see if they are written in the same memorry blocks.
If they use the same memorry space, in VBF loader go for Mondeo with Mondeo PAM SBL and then put "exe" and "calibration" files from Kuga.
The IDs are the same but they use different CAN signaling protocol. The same procedure is used by UCDS to program a Focus Sony ACM to a Mondeo one or the otherway around.

My main problem now is to know which VBF-files to get for the Kuga PAM. How do i get from partnumber to VBF-files?

Are we talking about Kuga 1 or Kuga 2?
Focus 2 / Kuga 1 doesn't have Update Wizard in UCDS, so here we would have some problems in finding out the needed files.
Focus 3 / Kuga 2 - it can be as simple as finding a UUW file from such a model that has PAM module.

Kuga MK1 (made 2012, the last one, as from 2013 it was MK2), so Focus MK2. Inside the UUW are also only firmware#realeses/numbers. This could be fetched from a working module. Thought somebody could provide this information here, or there is some way to get it via the partnumber of the device (reverse lookup).
