On the shared Google Sheet it is said to be on ID 78 - D3...
Here you didn't said anything about ID 40 :)

On that Google Sheet for ID 40 - D0 I have Low Beam On/OFF, other bites for KM/Miles in IPC instead of those lines "----" and other bites which I thought they are used for Auto Light - with sensor and for version without... Playing with the values I saw that there are some differences in display illumination but didn't test very much because I had others ID that weren't documented at all.

I have ELS and it works with it.
Usually that error is because it cannot communicate with ELS... maybe wrong baud? Did you tried with Auto detect baud?
IPC Update works with it?
ELM Config?

Cruise Control / Tempomat is not yet functional... I've found only Limit function, but I can only activate it, no setup and no way to disable it .. it needs IPC on/off :P

Are you sure you are selecting the right COM port?

Version [1.0.1]
### Added option to remove CAN IDs from being sent - for tests and/or maybe you have that device connected to MS CAN
### Added second DEBUG "send CAN ID with Message" - lets you play with more CAN IDs at the same time - as some features do need this
### Fixed Dimming Control - it was in D0 and D1 from CAN ID 0x06B

Open Putty - select Serial - change serial port to the one used by your ELS, write the baud (speed), press Open
in the new window write ATL1 and press enter, then write ATI and press enter and also STI and press enter
give me the outputs

Please also write STI then press enter.. this one is available only on ELS and not ELM.. (I was too tired when I wrote my previous message and said ATI two times instead of ATI and STI..)
Are you sure you have original ELS adapter??.. I never saw ELM327 v1.4b...

" CHG: Changed welcome string to print "ELM327 1.4b" instead of "ELM327 1.3a"
