Only for registered users...
Hey folks, as the forum getting popular it also contains valuable information. As i check from time to time who is accessing my pages and where they come from i found that even many repair garages use infos from here for commercial use. Also exchanging files may not be unproblematic if accessible public.
This is not what i want and i therefore removed attachment access for guests and add this Member forum where only registered users can read and write. I also think of completely closing the forum for registered, so even reading is only possible as user.
I got so many registration requests, mostly spammer. But i will only accept users i know from somewhere else.
What do you think?

I think it's a good idea. This is probably the reason why Ursadon does not continue.
Re: Only for registered users.
I totally agree it has become to open,, and this will lose members... i was the second member to be apart of this amazing forum and feel
We need to look closely at how it’s being used

Re: Only for registered users...
The information here is very sensitive, the Convers+ part especially. This would hurt some businesses (Conversmod.de and UCDS) and some of the surrounding ecosystem. Don't get me wrong, I am totally a fan of the free stuff, but this is quickly becoming a hack of a hack, plus some extras. I don't think that this is the kind of attention this community needs.
Furthermore, as the information about the Convers+ was quickly and publicly distributed and can't be really sopped, I don't think this is the right place for newbies. There are a lot other places to download and ask how to use an ELM.
The best way I can think to screen the avalanche of users would be to ask some technical questions at the registration, one the subject of the forum.

Re: Only for registered users...
I totally agree with avladimir! (even if he was a member since only yesterday
The reason why i founded this forum was because all other car forums where overwhelmed with people most often with extremely low knowledge, asking how to plug in an ELM adapter and such. This is not the audience i would expect and also not want here.
So i'll pick up the proposal to interview potential participants or even switch to different area rights. This is shurely against my inner orientation, because i think knowledge should be free and some business models are really scum!
But, what i want here is to talk about nearly free accessible things like and how to use them. Even looking into a mileage algorithm to understand it, is ok. But i would not want to raise somebodys cashflow with that knowledge. Hard to hit that target...
What we should definitively NOT do is to hack somebodys well earned business, even not in public. I think of Convers-Mod, because Alexey did a massive invest of time into it. That may also the reason why ursadon is gone into silence.
I now think of some rules:
1.) Let's keep on a high level sharing information, but not distributing illegal stuff, even if this stuff was illegal too. This is not a file sharing plattform, it's knowledge sharing!
I think sharing firmware dumps of parts somebody if us really own is ok. Most people can't do anything with it.
2.) Attachments (i must check if it is possible to distinguish here, to keep pictures free) should be only accessible for registered users.
3.) To keep up the high quality and to keep out leachers, new users must answer some questions to test their skills. I therefore will add a special "newbie" forum, where WE, the users ask for their intention and skills before we gave them access to more private areas. I think of three tier level like
Guests = Only see public forums talking about standards and electronics
New members = Can only post in the new members area where they get questioned by other members to get their knowledge level and intention (should also keep spammers away). BUT, this can only work if YOU all help on this!
Members = Can read/write anywhere
4.) I will ban any post (and maybe users also, if they violate against this rule over and over) having illegal parts in it. What is illegal i will decide on context. But stop sharing ConversMod images, let's better see how we can make it our own!

Re: Only for registered users...
Yes, I agree, but I have a few questions!
- Too strict rules will discourage disclosure of things not to go beyond forum rules. I'd rather not give info. I do not share and I have peace!
- Questions for newcomers are needed, but how many are already registered, perhaps half would not pass, including me ...
- By not sharing things and Convers +, this forum is still interesting, but I've been fascinated by Convers + information for a few years now. Including files, dumps, their comparison and understanding of functionality.
I am not alone I know about many people who are fascinated by things like me!
When I asked Oravák for info a few years ago, he wasn't willing to help. I put a lot of time into it and I did a lot of things. Yes even Oravák is registered and still asks considerable money for what many people share ...Unfortunately.
But I have to positively highlight all the people who have an effort to add any experience with whom I have been in contact. Big thanks...
Big thanks to GO4IT ...
And who read it to the end a few more words:
Close it here, but leave everything freely at the discretion of the registered ...
I believe it would be better to register new members under the responsibility and recommendation of already registered members ...

Re: Only for registered users...
Hi,
this reminds me of a question I used on another forum:
What color do you get if you combine the color of a dandelion and the color of Ford oval?
The answer should be green, from yellow and blue ... but a lot of Ford fans think of dandelion as it is in its last days of life - when you can blow it out - which makes them think its color is white or "transparent"
... so even if we have the same knowledge, our logic might be different.
In theory this idea sounds good for keeping spammers or lechers outside, but it might take too much of our time to go this way of trying to get the right answer from them and a rigid prepared form with questions and answers might let outside a possible good contributor.
If we block reading "sensitive data" we might make this forum too invisible / unattractive for, again, possible good contributors.

Re: Only for registered users...
The main problem is that the content would not be found from Google when we decide to lock it up! So people looking for help or other equalminded won't find us and maybe end up in some commercials pot :-/
I agree that Q&A should be to void spammers, but that's ok. Next step is to restrict new users to put their questions (or better their answers into a special area. If, for a while, we could build up a reputation, they are invited to get further into more restricted areas, where they can so everything like us. Also keep open public read for most areas, expect of attachments and of course some really private ones, for the "founders" of this forum.
Thanks for your interest, showing the binding to this community getting stronger

Re: Only for registered users
As I said a deceleration to comply to forum rules should be agreed at the point of joining.
Questions are ok but any one can find answers from google,
I think a trial area to see how and were things go is a good start. For new members,
Also shared part files should be zip and password protected , maybe. ,,
Need to get back to being a forum that enables self learning helping others to lern.
There is no real need to share complete files,
